Child Custody and Co-Parenting in the Service Industry…

Are you a Co-Parent in the service industry? Sometimes work hours in the evening or even in the wee hours at a bar, Waffle House or entertainment venue can create space during the day to enjoy time with your children or even babysit the kid(s) while they stay with the Other Side, but it can create challenges that need to be addressed, too. We’re here to help address your unique situation, but here are 4 helpful tips, no pun intended.

  1. Work with your manager to schedule your shifts as far in advance as possible. Better yet, get with your manager to set a recurring weekly schedule. Setting a Child Custody or Visitation schedule can be tricky when the schedule or hours changes week to week.

  1. Report ALL your tips, even and especially cash. What? Yup. First, it’s the right thing to do. Second, not reporting it reflects a scarcity mindset and you live and work in a world of abundance. Lastly, if you ever end up in a dispute over Child Support, everyone, and especially the Judge, is going to suspect you report less than you make and could enter a judgment which assumes you make more than you really do if you’re not credible about it.

  1. Enjoy the friendships but do so with caution. There’s lots to enjoy, whether it’s after hours shenanigans or access to unhealthy substances. Be a professional and treat it like a job. Get enough sleep and take care of your body.

  1. Take pride in what you do to create an amazing experience for your customers and earn a living for yourself and your family. Whether you sling drinks, cook or even dance, that’s nothing to be ashamed of. It’s 2022. Own your craft and your profession. Any judgment from anyone is going to look and sound as fearful and weak as it is. Make that money…and thank you for your service.
