Child Custody Devotional – Psalm 143:8 and a Morning Meditation

Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Psalm 143:8

There is magic in the morning. Everyone I study talks about it. Our energy is up, our willpower stocked and we’ve been bestowed the gift of a new day. I picked this verse to reflect on this Sunday because I loved the verbs and the directions, words like “know” and “go” and “lift” and “up.” Good stuff for the morning.

I have to stop myself, though, that I gauge the value of a morning on whether it’s too cold to take Boo Radley for a longer walk, whether it’s too cloudy to see the sunrise. I catch myself looking at this gift and judging it against what I think a morning should be. What do I know? I take a deep breath; my legs carry me to the kitchen to put out Boo’s breakfast and to make a cup of coffee. My mind is sharp and I know the way I should go.
