Do you think about thinking? Pretty meta, huh? More specifically, do you think about WHAT you think about? Do you think about HOW you think about WHAT you’re thinking about? It’s a mouthful, I know. Thanks for hanging in there.
Let’s look at some examples to help demonstrate…
Are you thinking about what the Other Side is doing or about what you’re doing? One’s not better than the other and there is a season for each.
What is the “action” of the thought? Are you planning? reflecting? Ruminating or dwelling (stewing, so to speak)?
^^^ So that’s what you’re thinking about. Is that what you WANT to be thinking about? Is that what you NEED to be thinking about?
Next, let’s get an example of HOW we’re thinking about WHAT we’re thinking about…
Are you thinking long-term or short-term? Again, one’s not better than the other. Different situations call for different, and sometimes multiple, modes of thinking. People toss out “think long term” like it’s always best but you can’t ignore the immediate challenges of day to day life, especially in #childcustody and #coparenting.
A little self-reflection can go a long way. A quick and easy tip to implement is to simply ask yourself, “am I thinking about this the right way?” or “does thinking about this this way get me and my family where we want to be?”
