Do you want to help committed parents and caring relatives be effective in child custody cases?

We are an entrepreneurial family law firm that is on track for aggressive growth and we need a Legal Assistant to join our team and work directly with our Child
Custody lawyers to support our team and serve our clients.

We want to be known for thoroughly advising and aggressively advocating for our clients and what they believe is best for their family and children. We are growing fast, and we need a Legal Assistant who can hit the ground running.

This position will be responsible for important work, including:

  • Opening, maintaining and closing files utilizing cloud technology
  • Keeping impeccable and detailed calendar for our team and our clients
  • Effectively communicate with our clients and relay pertinent information to our lawyers
  • Drafting, formatting and filing attractive and effective documents with our court system

We love to help people learn and grow. We’re glad to talk with a Legal Assistant with experience in family law, but we’re willing to train anyone with the proper fundamental skill set. The ideal candidate will be able to take initiative on work that needs to be done and complete tasks with minimal hand-holding.

This is a full-time job where you are expected to manage a caseload, so you absolutely must be able to work *in the office* for 40 hours per week.

Competitive compensation based on experience level and health insurance available for the successful candidate. There is an opportunity for bonus compensation for those who can demonstrate their profitability.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24,000.00 – $30,000.00 per year

We are looking for a bright, fast-paced and tech-savvy attorney who will do what it takes to research, strategize, confidently prepare and competently try complex child custody, divorce, DHR defense and adoption matters.

A successful candidate will be ready to hit the ground running to give our clients outstanding representation–a candidate who can demonstrate a history of building and maintaining trusted relationships with your clients and prove that you know your way around a courtroom.

  • Take ownership of a client’s case–pleadings, discovery, motions, experts, depositions, mediation, pretrial hearings, motion hearings, trials and post-judgment litigation (appellate experience definitely a plus).
  • Conduct client meetings, recommend strategies and delegate clear assignments with internal and external deadlines to legal staff.

The successful candidate shall have participated in all of the following:

  • 10 contested divorce, child custody, DHR defense or Adoption trials, as lead counsel, to a decision by the Judge;
  • 5 party family law depositions in which the candidate was deposing the opposing party;
  • 3 significant research and writing projects including or especially appeals; and
  • 3 significant, formal family law mediations which lasted a half day or longer.

This is an opportunity for a lawyer who…

  • can develop and implement both a substantive and procedural strategy of a case; they can consider and apply the applicable rules of court as well as the latest case law applicable to complex Child Custody, Divorce, DHR Defense and Adoption matters;
  • has experience working with a demanding case load, balancing priorities, managing the time and energy of both themselves and their legal support staff, being accountable and achieving production targets both individually and as a team;
  • who is willing to do what it takes, ethically and legally, to get the job done for the client and meet production targets for our team, even when that means occasional work on evenings, weekends or holidays;
  • knows their way around a courtroom, deposition or mediation, can project confidence and bring comfort to our clients during challenging circumstances and cases.
  • knows their way around a computer, Clio or a comparable state-of-the-art case management system, Google Docs, Word, Gmail, Google Drive and can demonstrate sophisticated use of web browsers, cloud technology and online legal research tools such as those offered by Westlaw or Lexis Nexis.
  • can be a knowledgeable, empathetic steward of our clients’ resources as well as identifying ways to bring value to the case and to our clients;
  • whose personality fits a fast-paced, solution-oriented culture;
  • skills and experience are important and valued, but your personality, character, intelligence, and integrity are also extremely important considerations.
  • we can count on do what you’re supposed to do and be where you’re supposed to be promptly and on strict, challenging deadlines;
  • is open-minded and prepared to grow in their skill-set, impact and ability to earn; can continue to learn, develop and be called upon to wear many hats, even if that means scanning your own documents or exhibits.
  • High-maintenance, humorless, self-entitled, dramatic or self-important individuals will not succeed in our Firm and need not apply.

The successful candidate can expect to earn $125,000 or more, annually, including a salary commensurate with skill and experience plus bonus compensation for production and performance. We offer the following benefits in addition to financial compensation:

  • Blue Cross / Blue Shield health insurance coverage to the employee at no cost (marginal costs for family and upgrades deducted from employee’s pay);

  • Retirement matching up to 3% of Employee’s Pay;

Qualifications:

  • Paralegal experience in family law
  • Proficiency in typing
  • Strong skills in legal research and document review
  • Familiarity with Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw
  • Ability to manage legal cases efficiently
  • Experience in document management systems and transcription
  • Excellent organizational and writing skills
